The summer of 2021 proved to be very challenging, simply, because we added so many new client dogs who came to board with us. This has caused some issues with our regular daycare clients. These clients bring their dogs here 3-5 and some even 6 times per week and we have had no availability to them because of boarding capacity. After much discussion, we have decided that we would only be boarding our regular client’s dogs.
OUR definition of a regular client: One whose dog attends daycare here at least 2 times a month for 3 months prior to their boarding date or has boarded with us at least 5 times in the previous 12 months.
We wanted a longer history with boarding dogs because we want to be comfortable with dogs who come here and in return have them comfortable coming here.
We cut back incrementally on our number of boarding spaces as well. On November 1st we lowered our boarding numbers to 10 dogs maximum, down from the previous 15 and then cut it back further to a maximum of 5 on January 1st of 2022 and only if space permits. at that time.
We will only be offering boarding over March break, from Canada Day to Labour Day and over Christmas. Again, these boarding spaces will only be available to regular clients as long as there is space. Depending on our daycare needs, a maximum of 5 boarding spots will be available during these allotted times. The downsizing in numbers and limited boarding days should allow our daycare clients to be able to count on much needed spots for their dogs, as so many people are now headed back to work. Outside of the times listed above, we will only be a daycare. We understand a special situation could arise and we will review it on case-by-case basis. We know this will no doubt cause some hardship for some current clients and for that we do apologize. However, this always was a retirement gig and to say it got a wee bit out of hand is an understatement. It is getting to the point where we needed to make a better work and life balance choices, and what is in our best interest mentally and physically. Obviously, we will not be taking on any new clients who are just looking for boarding going forward. Our goal, ultimately, will be to provide daycare only operations in the coming years.
